Imagine . . . . the ultimate Reef fishing experience

A classic 20 lb Red Emperor.  Prized by Seafood Restaurants throughout the country, this fish is equal in eating quality to any in the world!

The waters off Mackay are arguably some of the most productive for reef fishing along the whole Great Barrier Reef.  There are a number of reasons for this. The most important is distance.  Because of the distance of the reefs off the coast (generally more than 70 nautical miles or 120 km) they are relatively pristine and unfished except by Charter or Professional crews.

Aboard Black Samurai we generally operate around 100 miles (190 km) off the coast to ensure pristine conditions and good fishing. Our reputation has been built on the principle that our clients want to catch fish.  We are fishermen ourselves and we pride ourselves in being able to guarantee results; because we try harder than anyone else!

This is a monster 36 lb Blue Spot the largest of all the Coral Trout varieties.

Red Throat Emperor are first class table fare.

Coral Trout

Most sought after by the restaurant trade, sadly most Queensland Coral Trout are exported live to South East Asian Markets.

Bringing over $A40.00 / kg live weight for export to Hong Kong (the major trading centre in live fish exports), Coral Trout are almost impossible to buy locally.  This live weight price equates to over $A120.00 / kg equivalent for a Coral Trout fillet.

Today the best  way for  most Australians to  enjoy this beautiful eating fish is to take a charter trip to the reef.

You're either a Red Throat man or a Trout man!

Also known locally as Red Sweetlip, the Red Throat Emperor is claimed by many to be the best eating of all the barrier reef fish . . .  tough call really. . . pure white fillets which freeze well and have a taste as delicate as Whiting!

These very prolific fish are highly prized.  A bonus is that Red Throat Emperor inhabit most night locations providing after dinner action in our safe lagoon anchorages.

Red Emperor

Red Emperor are a bonus on any reef trip. Their beauty is matched by their excellent eating qualities. Gently pan fried fillets of Red Emperor are pure white and succulent.

These are just a few of the many superb eating reef fish that you can expect to catch on a Black Samurai charter to the outer Great Barrier Reef.  Other fish taken include Jobfish, Tusk Fish, Stripey Bass and various types of Cod.  You can also expect to  catch Mackerel, Trevally, GT and sometimes Mahi Mahi and Wahoo.

Black Samurai is well equipped for reef fishing.  Large capacity commercial refrigeration is a feature and includes snap freezing capability.

The benefit to you is professionally processed, neatly packed, snap frozen fillets.

We are qualified to pack to airline standard for shipment home with you by air.
